Call back your power

You are very powerful, provided you know how powerful you areDo you feel your own power? Do you feel in control of your life? Do you feel completely happy in your own skin?

If the answer is “no” to any of these questions then please know you’re not alone!

Low self-esteem is rife in our society (particularly amongst sensitive people who’ve had a lifetime of people telling them not to be so emotional, to get over it, and to grow a thicker skin).

Feeling crap about yourself in some way is a hidden epidemic and a taboo subject as it’s rarely talked about. Who wants to admit to feeling this way? Read more…

Are you living your life in alignment?

Train tracks
Does something not quite seem aligned?

Do you ever get the sense there’s something out of kilter? That something doesn’t quite feel right?

Maybe you know what it is. Perhaps you can’t quite put your finger on it but it’s a niggly sense that something needs to change.

A strange but very real sense that something isn’t quite aligned properly.

Start your day with intention

Sunrise: start the day with good intention
Rise & shine

Here’s a question for you. What’s your intention for today?

Did you answer something along the lines of, “Erm, dunno”?

Daily life can all to easily turn into a hamster wheel of: get up, go to work or look after the kids or run around all day doing stuff, arrive home exhausted, flop in front of the TV, haul yourself off to bed before repeating it all the next day.

We’re so busy, busy, busy – in a culture which unhealthily glorifies busy and being productive – that one day can easily feel like the next.

Events determine what we experience each day and how we feel.

What would it feel like to know there’s another way?

Imagine living each day with purpose and intention.

Yes, you might still need to do the same stuff but what if you no longer needed to feel pulled this way and that as if you have no control over what you do and how feel? Read more…

The mindful way through stress and anxiety

Choppy waters - let mindfulness calm you
The waves of life can crash against us

When your head is full of thoughts. When you’re worried or scared. When you’re tired and just can’t be bothered any more. When you’re tense. When you’re in pain. When you’re so overwhelmed that you think you’re just going to go into melt-down. When burnout feels around the corner.

It can feel impossible to know what to do.

But there is something you can always do to help yourself. To reconnect back to yourself. To self-soothe.  To come back from the brink.

I know because I’ve experienced all of these myself.  The tension, overwhelm, exhaustion and whizzing mind.

They still sometimes creep up on me, but now I know what to do to stop them in their tracks and recover my equilibrium.

I take these 3 simple but powerful steps. Give them a try and see how they work for you. Read more…

5 little words which may change your life

Mindful or Mind-Full?Ah, the human mind. It’s such a powerful tool.

But it does love to flit around and judge.  Wanting this, not wanting that. Pulling and pushing. Attachment and aversion.

All too often never quite satisfied with what we have here and now.

It’s all rather tiring isn’t it?

The mind pulls us out of this moment and stops us enjoying the people we are with, or the quiet-time we’re allowing ourselves, or the simple pleasures of sights and sounds around us which can bring us joy and enrich our lives. Read more…

Losing the comparison game? Let yoga & mindfulness help you

Scales of justice
Do you compare yourself and find yourself wanting?

The comparison game. Do you play it?

The constant comparing yourself to others? Not feeling good enough? Feeling frustrated, ashamed, or angry that your life, achievements, appearance don’t match up?

Don’t feel bad – we all do it and get that sinking feeling of being not-good-enough-in-comparison to someone else.

There’s something about our culture which promotes comparison.

The glossy magazines, the adverts showing unattainable lifestyles, the side bars of shame. The carefully curated social media streams designed to illustrate how perfect that person’s life is.

Every day we see images and message which press our “not good enough” button which leaves us feeling anxious and stressed and disappointed.

But it’s not good for us to think and feel this way. It erodes our self-esteem. Read more…

Life lessons from meditation

Stella Tomlinson Meditation and Yoga Teacher Southampton and Eastleigh
Each and every day you can make this choice: listen to your monkey mind or listen to your inner wisdom

Do you sometimes not try something because you’ve already told yourself you can’t do it?

“I can’t relax because I’m too tense”, “I can’t stand up in front of a group to speak because I’m not confident enough”, “I can’t join a yoga class because everyone will think I’m bad at it” “I can’t meditate because my mind’s too busy”.

Yes, my mind does that too!

And it happened again last Saturday at my Dru Meditation Teacher Training. Read more…

I’ve finally done it!

“Most [wo]men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with their song still in them” ~ Henry David Thoreau

Here's my excited face
Excited to finally be walking on MY path

I don’t want to be one of those people.

So, I’ve taken the leap. I’ve done what I’ve long been dreaming of. I’m taking control of my life and my destiny.

I’m going to sing MY song.

I’ve handed in my notice at work to leave my part-time job in one month’s time.

I’m devoting my life to play my small part in helping to relieve the suffering of stress and anxiety through calming yoga, relaxation and meditation.

I have a calling. It’s always been there. To do something useful. To make a difference. To help others. To empower others that there is a different way in life. To write. To create. To get up on stage somehow. To inspire.

To let as many people know as possible that life doesn’t have to be struggle and difficulty and stress and self-loathing and quiet desperation. That we are free despite the mass manipulation by of our governments and media and culture with their twisted messages of fear and self-loathing and hatred of others.

But first I had to make my own journey from that dark place to a different one.

To a place of joy and self-acceptance and permission to do what lights me up. Of lightness. Of simplicity. To a place of self-belief. Read more…

Choose gratitude and joy this January

Happy 2016!

Happy New Year! The year has turned again and here you are at the start of 2016.

Are you feeling the calling to turn a new leaf? To make resolutions? To stop doing this; to change that; to be more this; to do less of the other?

It’s natural to feel this at the start of a year.

However, most New Year’s resolutions tend to be based on a feeling that we’re not good enough, that we need to stop making bad choices and that if only we could be thinner, or drink less, or break the social media addiction then our life would be perfect and we would be happy. Read more…

The Power of Awareness and Positive Intention

Into the light
Set a positive intention – head towards the light!

If there’s one thing my yoga practice has taught me – it’s the power of the mind to shape the way you experience life.

If your mind is all over the place and unfocused – you’ll feel pulled this way and that in all that you do.

If your mind dwells in the past – you will find it difficult to approach the future with confidence.

If your mind is always jumping forward anticipating all the “what ifs” of any given situation – you will find it impossible to enjoy what you have, here, in your life now.

Believe me,  I know this to be true, because that’s what I’ve experienced myself! Read more…
