Monkey mind: use a mantra instead
What message is your chattering monkey mind giving you?

Do you have a little voice in your head giving you a running commentary on everything you do, say, think or feel? A negative mantra that you keep repeating?

I reckon that the answer is “yes”.

Because we all do.

We all have a voice in our head running a commentary on ourselves, our lives and other people.

An inner critic judging what we do or say, replaying situations over and over again looking at what we “should” have said or done, analysing every waking moment and action we take or fretting over what we think we should do or ruminating over what might happen.

But instead of being at the mercy of your noisy mind, wouldn’t it be great if you could consciously change the words your mind’s inner voice uses? Read more…

Shine the light in your heart

As we approach the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, you may, like me, be finding the short days and the darkness rather trying.

We get up in the dark and sunset comes around all too quickly. It’s damp, it’s cold. It feels too long since the bright days of summer!

But know that inside you is a light source to which you can connect whenever you wish. A light which never dims.

This light, this energy, is your heart energy. Full of love, compassion, understanding and gentleness. Read more…

Get inspired to look inside

We all need a little of bit of inspiration now again. A few words to the wise which connect to something we feel or make us look at life a little differently.

I find this helps me to practice Svadhyaya (self-study or self-reflection) – sometimes you need to look outwards for inspiration to go inwards to reflect.

And I try to experience this daily, which is very easily done with the internet! Or I’ll take a book off my shelf and have a flick through. I have many books which I haven’t yet read – I believe when I’m ready to learn from them my eye will be drawn to them and I’ll take them down off the shelf and begin to read them.
